Description

1. Function & Purpose (The "2 IN 1 T BRANCH"):

This device acts as an in-line combiner. Its primary function is to parallel two independent PV source circuits (strings) at the array, reducing the amount of wiring and combiner box terminals needed downstream. Instead of running two separate pairs of cables all the way to the combiner box, you can use this connector to merge them into one pair closer to the source.

2. Key Specifications Decoded:

MC4: This indicates the connector type. MC4 is the industry-standard brand-neutral term for the most common solar connector. It ensures cross-compatibility with cables and panels from different manufacturers.

1500V: This is the maximum DC voltage the connector is rated to handle. This is the standard for modern commercial and utility-scale solar systems that operate at higher voltages to improve efficiency.

2 IN 1: This describes its function: it has two inputs and one output, combining two DC circuits into one.

T BRANCH: Refers to the physical "T" or "Y" shape of the connector body.

3. How It Is Used:

You would have two separate "strings" of solar panels.

The positive output cables from each string are connected to the two inputs of a Positive 2-in-1 branch connector.

The negative output cables from each string are connected to the two inputs of a Negative 2-in-1 branch connector.

The single output of the positive branch connector and the single output of the negative branch connector then form the combined positive and negative leads that run to the combiner box or inverter.

4. Key Advantages:

Reduces Wiring: Significantly decreases the number of home-run cables needed from the array to the combiner box, saving on material and labor costs.

Simplifies Combiner Box: Reduces the number of fuses and terminals required in the combiner box, allowing for a smaller, less expensive box.

Maintains Safety: Built with the same IP67-rated, UV-resistant, and insulated housing as standard MC4 connectors.

Improves Aesthetics: Results in a cleaner, less cluttered array with fewer cables to manage.

5. Critical Considerations & Installation Notes:

Fusing Requirements: This is the most important consideration. When you parallel two strings, the reverse current from the healthy string can backfeed into a faulted string. A fuse is required on each input leg to protect against this, unless the source circuits are rated for the sum of the parallel fault currents (which they rarely are).

Solution: These branch connectors are very often used in conjunction with in-line MC4 fuse holders on each input leg. You must ensure each source circuit is properly fused.

Current Rating: The connector itself has a maximum current rating (e.g., 30A). The combined current of the two parallel strings must not exceed this rating.

Voltage Rating: The system voltage must not exceed the 1500V rating.

Tooling: Professional installation with an MC4 crimping tool is required to ensure a proper, weather-tight connection on the cable ends.
